Philosophy and ValuesWe believe in the power of investigation

Currently, the company manages more than 27 R&D projects, of which 40% relate to co-innovation projects. Among them, the ambitious project of digitalisation of the public lighting infrastructure life cycleis of particular note, in which SETGA leads a consortium of 6 technology companies and academic institutions, among which the University of Vigo and the Gradiant technology centre stand out.

The anticipatory vocation of the company has contributed to transforming unexplored technologies into highly reliable and efficient systems.

Social
commitment

SETGA retains 98% of its value chain in Western Europe. Of all the components integrated by its manufacturing line located in Pontevedra, 81% of the added value comes from within a radius of 150 km, and 15% from a radius of within 1,200 km. Through this industrial philosophy, most of the 65 direct and 130 indirect positions are generated close to our customers, while preserving the highest standards of quality and sustainability, in terms of both the environment and working conditions.

In the bidding processes of a burgeoning number of central European public authorities, SETGA has been recognised and valued for the development of a productive model based on the concept of “Social Return on Investment” or “Corporate Social Responsibility” (SROI and CSR respectively), making social commitment compatible with business efficiency. The increasing recruitment of long-term unemployed people aged over 45 and their dependents has revealed new sources of talent thanks to the programme created by SETGA and the Spanish Red Cross, el “LIGHT AND TALENT”, the first transversal training and social employment programme carried out in the European public and technical lighting industry.

Environmental
sustainability

In 2015, SETGA adapted its sustainability master plan to the 3S strategy: “Speeding Sustainable Spiral”, whose aim is to accelerate the spiral of sustainability throughout the value chain, from the individual production of each component to integration in the final product.

This interconnected manufacturing philosophy is based on proximity manufacturing, and allows the implementation of a transversal environmental audit system where not only the internal processes of SETGA are ISO14001 certified and ROHS compliant, but all of their TIER 1 providers also hold these certifications.

At present, the product portfolio stands out for the prevalence of highly recyclable materials, whose transformation processes have experienced a substantial reduction in their environmental impact.

Upgrade
performance

Prolonging the lifetime curve and deprogramming the obsolescence of LED luminaires represents the most responsible environmental path and the optimal formula to minimise total cost of ownership in the medium and long term. This philosophy has led to the birth of the Upgrade Performance Programme (UPP), a service through which the mechanical components of SETGA – APS® luminaires are reused, updating only the LED electronic systems. In this way, 77% of the added monetary value of components is reused at the end of their lifespan, giving each luminaire the opportunity of a second life.

UPP illustrates a new perspective to the total cost of
ownership calculation– TCO. With a double life cycle, the LED TCO
will decrease from 50% to 88% (compared to conventional technologies).
